Indie type

Searching for typefaces is almost like sailing on the sea and looking for water. There are tens of thousands of fonts out there to choose from. So it is handy to have some help at hand. Especially if you are in need of quality fonts to support your design needs.

There are many web resources and font vendors where you can browse typefaces online but it is also important for me to see them on a printed page. To get specimens from type foundries is one way. Another way I have consulted regularly since 2011 is the book “Type Navigator” from Gestalten.

It is a wonderful compilation of independent foundries from around the globe with lots of representative examples of their quality typefaces. At the end of the book you will find a rich index of foundries with those highlighted which are featured in the book. A CD-ROM with 100 typefaces is also included.
